Telepresence:
experimental performance for (live)camera
by Fenia Kotsopoulou & Daz Disley
with the participation of Kirsty Russell and Tessa Palfrey
Rooted in Kotsopoulou & Disley's first collaborations exploring absence, presence, and glitched mediation, 'Telepresence' takes a spontaneous live-approach to their previously editing-based techniques exploring the choreographies of fragmentation.
This experiment, delivered as a quartet, explores notions of fragmentation and presence as mediated through video-chat, with additional and deliberate glitched interventions designed after some of the underlying errors that occur in video encoding, distribution, and reproduction.
What does it mean to be present at distance ? How do we chose when and what to encode, to decode, to discard, and to classify as redundant ? ... and how does this constellation of psycho/techno perspectives impact on close-quarters dance performance ?
